Interesting Boys Names
Monday, November 10, 2008 at 08:49PM Hey Tara ,
I am writing to you because I am need of inspiration ! My husband and I are about to have our fourth child ( A boy) and I am struggling to find a name that suits and lives up to my expectations .
Our current children are Eden Willow (girl) , Daphne Blair and William Monty . I am wanting a name that is strong , yet classy and interesting ?
Any suggestions ? It would really be appreciated !!
Thanks a lot
Sofia

Hi Sofia,
I like the names of your children. :) Boys names are hard aren't they? It is so hard to come up with good ideas.
I am still working on some suggestions but I thought I would put this marker here and people could comment their own suggestions in the meantime! I will get back to this asap ok?
Tara
Ok Sofia,
I have thought about possible names for you and have come up with these 6 names that I think meet your criteria.
Miles - I love the strength yet quirky feel of this name. It is a bit stuffy but cool. I think the coolness comes from an association with Jazz great Miles Davis.
Archie - This short form of Archibald is becoming more commonplace and funky. I like the kind of Scottish feel as well.
Alfie - I was going to suggest Alfred but that seems a little bid staid. Alfie is the roguish short form and I think it is just waiting for a comeback in Australia. Might be a bit too English Sloan Ranger though?
Edward - I feel like I suggest Edward all the time but nobody uses it. Anyway, I love the straight-laced strong feel of this Royal name but it is so unusual for people to use it these days that I think it is interesting again.
Walter - Oh I have such a soft spot for this name as one of Anne of Green Gables' sons. Wally is a bit of a dodgy nickname but Walt has a great cool feel.
Wolfe - Ok this is a bit further afield but I think it would have a kind of special synergy with your other names. This name has a certain wild feel and the relationship with the Wolf is pretty obvious. It is a total Last names First kind of name but it has a strong association with historical military figures.
Oh and as an added extra, I always suggest James for anyone with a William. James is just great. Jamie, Jim, Jimmy are lively fun and cool shortforms. It might be a good first name before any of my other suggestions?

Hi Tara ,
Thanks for the reply .. Looking forward to hear what you come up with !
Sofia
Hey Tara ,
Thankyou , Thankyou for your great suggestions .. you really are very thoughtful in taking your own time to help other's with such an important task !
So , my favourite's of your thoughts are :
1 . Archie ( This is so cute and I can see it working at any age - always important to consider , I feel )
2. Miles ( Also cute and very old school which is great)
3. James ( I have considered this many a time , however I never took it seriously because I felt too typical .. having a Willam and a James as you said .. but what the heck , there's no denying I love the name)
Dad really likes Edward and also Miles .. so we are still in deep discussion .
One name I think would be good is Archie Alexander ( plain , but oh-so cute , or Miles Xavier ..
Anyway Thanks again and I will update you soon when the decision has been made !!!
Sofia
Okay Tara , good news - the decision has finally been made ! It took a lot of discussion and mixing and matching but we have put together the name
'Martin Wolfe'
I like the class Martin seems to bring , along with the fiery wickedness of Wolfe . Hope this doesn't dissapoint ...
Will defiently advise you for the next one ( Dad isn't so sure .. but you never know ! )
Sofia
Oh Sofia I LOVE it! I am so happy that you used Wolfe, how wonderful. I really like the pace and rhythm of Martin Wolfe, and you are right about the dignity of Martin and the spirit of Wolfe, what a great match! :)
Congratulations on choosing a wonderful name.
lots of love
Tara
Glad you like it and glad we have the tick of approval !! Thanks again ,
Sofia

Hi,
I am in a dilemna, perhaps you can help! We had picked the name Jackson for our baby boy, I am due in five weeks. The j is after a relative who died. Well, my brother had a baby a few days ago and named it Jack! They were aware this was one of our likely choices. Now we are trying to find back ups, but also felt it it was o.k. with them, they were different enough that it should be o.k. So I approached them, and said we would try to find back ups, but would it by o.k. with them if we can't find any. Then they really indicated no! I was suprised and upset, as I would not have cared. We were very attached to the name and had started using it. Now two questions, your thoughts, and also if another back up is Jake.....is that too close?
We do have different middle and last names.
Thanks!
I have a feeling Edward may become more popular now after the Twilight series!!!
yer but i hope the name doesnt bcome popular cos i love it!!!
